Analytical chemistry
The need to analyse a compound and identify its constituent components is a fundamental requirement of most areas of science, particularly those involving food and the environment. Analytical chemistry is an integral part of almost every field of CSL's work.
Chemical contaminants and nutrients in foods can be detected and quantified by firstly isolating the compound of interest and then using Mass Spectrometry (MS) to perform the analysis. MS analysis is a diverse area involving wide-ranging expertise and instrumentation. CSL is unique in that the entire scope of MS is available, allowing a comprehensive analysis to be carried out in one location. This complete and integrated service provides a significant benefit to clients, and enables the assimilation of a range of results which can sometimes produce a unique solution to a problem. The quantity of valuable information that can be garnered from such a comprehensive series of MS procedures is vast. This information can then be fully exploited and disseminated utilising the advanced data processing techniques of CSL's renowned Knowledge Management facility.
