Who we work for

Our science has application and value to customers working in the public and private sectors around the world. Irrespective of nationality, our partners and customers come from many sectors of public service, commerce and academia, but all have one need in common: high quality, impartial information based on sound science.

Governments

For the UK and overseas governments we provide research, consultancy and technical services across the spectrum of our work in the food chain, environment and land usage. Whether it is surveillance of food chain contaminants in the UK, consultancy and training for capacity building in analytical services in Vietnam, or identification of plant health diseases in Europe, our expertise helps public sector customers anticipate and prepare for uncertainty.

Academic community

Many of our 500 scientists are engaged in collaborative ventures with colleagues across the globe. We have collaborative agreements in place with universities and research organisations in many countries, leading to shared projects and jointly-authored scientific papers. Our particular strengths in applied science are a highly-valued commodity within the academic community.

Food supply chain

Organisations from the rapidly expanding global food supply chain form a key part of our customer base. Food producers and processors from around the world come to CSL for analytical services, advice, consultancy and training as part of the measures to comply with EU food regulations. At a more strategic level, we work closely with multinational food companies and retailers who are concerned with the risk assessment and safeguarding of supply chains and the protection of brand reputations.

Land-based industries

Throughout our history the land-based sector has been the main focus of our science and business activities. This continues today, with a customer base which includes agricultural and horticultural businesses, speciality chemical manufacturers, wildlife conservationists, airports and infrastructure developers. In servicing the needs of these customers we have developed offers ranging from pest and disease identification for growers, to bird management services for wind farm developers and airports.
