Our science base
Generating and using knowledge
We aim to be a front-line, responsive public sector laboratory providing an essential breadth of science in the fields of agriculture, food and the environment.
We currently employ over 500 scientists providing a range of services and innovative solutions for Government and industry, in response to their requirements and global trends. CSL brings together a wide range of expertise in the environmental, food safety and agricultural sciences and has developed a flexible, multi-disciplinary organisation, capable of creating synergy by assembling scientists into teams to meet the breadth of challenges facing our stakeholders. This inter-disciplinary culture also enables us to work more effectively with other organisations in joint projects.
CSL has a number of science themes which represent cross cutting skills and competences required for us to deliver an integrated science programme for our stakeholders. These themes are reflected in our science networks.
To deliver the science needed by our customers, CSL has four Science Groups, each closely aligned with its core customer base:
Plant Health Group
Providing high quality national and international consultancy, research and services to safeguard crop and bee health, and providing solutions to microbiological issues.
Wildlife and Ecology Management Group
Providing high quality research and services relating to ecology and management of wildlife
Environmental Biology Group
Providing high quality research and support services to Government and private sector customers in the area of sustainable environmental management particularly in relationship to agriculture.
Food Science Group
Working to improve the safety and quality of the food supply chain from the farm to the table by providing high quality research and services to Government and the food industry. Also provides international proficiency testing and training.
Science networks
The cross-organisation networks drive forward our main science themes.
