Goose movements

Click here to see where our geese have been.

For risk assessments, we're interested in what proportion of the locations obtained for a particular goose were on which crops. But of course the geese move around the countryside, and this gives us extra data on how and where they move. Use the map tool to see where our geese have been.

There might be one of our tagged geese at your local birdwatching spot. Using the map tool, you can see where it's been since it was tagged.

Some of the birds have made interesting movements, usually in late summer when they're looking for a site where they feel safe to moult (like many waterfowl, greylags become flightless for a period while moulting). BUI, for example, travelled all the way from Ripon to Loch Leven to moult, and BVA made a grand tour of Northumberland before settling down to moult in the centre of Newcastle.

Re-sightings

We usually know where the satellite-tagged birds are! We aren't always able to visit the sites they're using as often as we'd like, so if you want to tell us what one of them is up to, please

Besides our satellite-tagged birds, there are quite a few greylags, and other geese, with colour marks on - orange collars similar to the ones we're using, grey collars, and leg rings in various colours. If you want to report these, (or any other marked bird) visit www.ring.ac.
